Connectivity & Circulation:

  • Park-and-ride and bus transfer facilities
  • Elevated pedestrian crossing over Kualakai Parkway
  • Local streets in grid-like pattern with smaller blocks part of a multi-modal circulation network
  • Multi-use path along Kualakai Parkway next to the Kaloi Gulch Diversion Channel, connecting with Puuwai Park greenway corridor
  • Shared-use path along former channel on campus
  • Festival street on one block of Hookulaia Street

Parks & Open Space:

  • Kaloi-Kualakai recreational greenway along the Kaloi Gulch Diversion Channel
  • Kaloi greenway along a former channel on campus
  • Open spaces within campus and non-campus lands, including a “great lawn” to serve as a major activity node
  • Commons area on campus to serve as a larger, flexible open space area supporting a variety of uses
  • Puuwai Park greenway corridor

Urban Form:

  • Compact designs and appropriately sized and designed spaces
  • Parking garages or podiums screened or wrapped on street side with habitable dwelling units or commercial spaces
  • Pedestrian-friendly and active streetscapes
  • Greenways and/or multi-use paths serving as a transition for buildings facing roadways, with maintenance and other back-of-house activities accessed by internal streets and service roads
  • Buildings and open spaces configured to take advantage of public amenities and views of the mountain ranges, while respecting trade-wind patterns and other environmental conditions to capitalize on opportunities for alternative energy and natural solutions

Land Use:

  • Mixed-use zones of higher building heights and densities near the station
  • Active ground-floor uses supported by medium- to high-density residential development that provides for a diversity of housing types, incomes, and family sizes within close proximity to each other
  • Building intensity generally declining with distance from the station
