Connectivity & Circulation:

  • Grid layout with smaller blocks created by mid-block access points to improve pedestrian-scale connectivity
  • Streets designed to accommodate multi-modal transportation and prioritize safety for pedestrians and cyclists
  • Local and connector streets prioritized in street network
  • Bus transfer facilities to allow easy transfer between different transportation modes
  • Puuwai Park greenway corridor, connecting with Kaloi-Kualakai recreational greenway and multi-modal path
  • Festival street intended for community market events and street festivals on one block of Kamaliemua Street

Parks & Open Space:

  • Integration of several types of parks and open spaces, including semi-private open spaces
  • Puuwai Park greenway corridor to serve as a linear park for active and passive activities

Urban Form:

  • Parking garages or podiums screened or wrapped on street side with habitable dwelling units or commercial spaces
  • Buildings and open spaces configured to take advantage of public amenities and views of the mountain ranges, while respecting trade-wind patterns and other environmental conditions to capitalize on opportunities for alternative energy and natural solutions
  • Building orientations and frontages in mixed-use areas sited and designed to create a vibrant, pedestrian-oriented environment
  • Buildings oriented and up close to key streets, such as Farrington Highway, with maintenance and other back-of-house activities accessed by internal streets and service roads

Land Use:

  • Land uses ranging from medium- to higher-density, mixed-use buildings to open spaces and lower density housing
  • Mixed-use town center near the station
  • Active ground floor uses, with primary area around the station and town center to create a dynamic pedestrian-oriented environment
  • Land use transition from higher to lower density and from mixed-use to primarily live-work residential with distance from the station
