HONOLULU — Ahead of potential severe weather anticipated later this week associated with a third Kona low storm to hit the state in the past month, the City and County of Honolulu announced Monday that the Waialua Community Assistance Center (CAC) and Distribution Hub will be closed between Wednesday, April 8 and Friday, April 10 as a safety precaution.
Since Thursday, March 26, the Community Assistance Center has been set up to provide critical services and information to residents impacted by the Kona low flood, including medical assistance, replacement of vital records, replacement of driver’s licenses and state IDs, housing assistance and case management, and disaster assistance information.
Those services will continue after the threat of potential floods associated with a third Kona low storm has passed.
“We are asking everyone on Oʻahu to be prepared and to start now. Do not wait until the weather turns,” said Mayor Rick Blangiardi. “We don’t know exactly what this third storm will bring, but the City is on full alert, especially in areas that were hardest hit.”
55 households were served at the CAC on Saturday, the most recent full day for which data is available. Since March 26, the Community Assistance Center has served at least 1,244 households with emergency needs associated with flood recovery and response.
