HONOLULU — The City and County of Honolulu, alongside the Hawai‘i National Guard, has pre-staged 11 high-water vehicles in key locations across Oʻahu in anticipation of heavy rain moving onshore this morning and the potential for more flooding.
Vehicles have been strategically positioned on the Windward side, the Waiʻanae Coast, and the North Shore to ensure rapid response to flooded roadways and communities in high-risk areas. Each vehicle is supported by personnel from the Hawaiʻi National Guard and the Honolulu Police Department.
“As this next round of heavy rain begins to move in, we are taking proactive steps to be ready,” said Mayor Rick Blangiardi. “Pre-staging these high-water vehicles reflects the experience and strong instincts of our first responders, who know how quickly flooding can develop and how important it is to be in position ahead of time. This is a deliberate plan to ensure we can respond immediately and reach those in need without delay. We’re asking our residents to remain vigilant, stay off the roads if possible, and continue to take this situation seriously.”
The staging effort is part of the City’s ongoing proactive response as a Flash Flood Watch remains in effect and additional rainfall is expected over the coming hours.
