HONOLULU — The City and County of Honolulu announced Wednesday afternoon that four emergency shelters locations are now open ahead of expected severe weather associated with a third Kona low storm system.
Shelter locations at the following locations opened at 1 p.m. today, April 8, 2026:
- George Fred Wright Wahiawā District Park, located at 1061 Kilani Ave, Wahiawa, HI 96786;
- Mānoa Valley District Park, located at 2721 Kaaipu Ave, Honolulu, HI 96822; and
- Wai‘anae District Park, located at 85-601 Farrington Hwy, Waianae, HI 96792.
Due to heavy rains in Waimānalo on Tuesday night, the City’s emergency shelter at Kāne‘ohe District Park — located at 45-660 Keaahala Rd, Kaneohe, HI 96744 — was opened on the evening of Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
The City is continuing to assess conditions, and additional shelter locations will open as needed. For the most current list of shelter locations and updates, please visit p.veoci.com/hnlshelter.
There are no evacuation orders in place at this time. However, residents are strongly encouraged to monitor conditions closely and take action early if they feel unsafe.
As a reminder, these shelters are a safe place for residents and visitors who need a safe place during the storm. Those seeking shelter are advised to bring their own food, water, medications, and other essential items whenever possible. All locations are pet-friendly, but pets must be leashed or in a carrier. Owners are responsible for their pets and should bring necessary supplies.
The shelters are operated in partnership with the American Red Cross, with support from houseless outreach providers, and in coordination with Partners In Care.
If you are experiencing an emergency, call 911. Do not call 911 for information only; keep lines open for those in immediate need.
City officials encourage all residents to stay informed by signing up for HNL Alert at hnlalert.gov or by texting HNLALERT to 888-777 to receive urgent notifications.
