ENV responding to Wastewater Spill at Kāneʻohe Tunnel Influent Facility

HONOLULU — The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Environmental Services (ENV) is responding to an active wastewater spill at the Kāneʻohe Tunnel Influent Facility caused by heavy rain and inflow and infiltration (I/I) on March 20, 2026.

At approximately 2:00 p.m., high I/I overwhelmed the system causing two manholes to discharge into Kawa Stream.  ENV crews are currently on-site monitoring conditions and assessing the total volume of discharge.

Following the cessation of severe weather, ENV will post warning signs and initiate water quality sampling.  Residents are advised to stay out of the affected waterways until signs are removed.
