City to illuminate Honolulu Hale, Blaisdell Arena, and HFD Headquarters in honor of Fallen Firefighter Week

HONOLULU – From April 27, 2025, to May 4, 2025, Honolulu Hale, the Neal S. Blaisdell Arena, and the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) Headquarters will be illuminated in red as part of Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters to honor the brave firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

This year, the City and County of Honolulu will pay special tribute to Jeff Fiala, a dedicated Honolulu firefighter who tragically lost his life while responding to a house fire on January 6, 2025.

“The Honolulu Fire Department is still mourning the tragic loss of one of our very own, Firefighter Jeffrey Fiala,” said Fire Chief Sheldon K. Hao. “This year’s Light The Night for Fallen Firefighters is deeply felt as we honor and illuminate the memory of Jeff and all fallen firefighters for their ultimate sacrifice in service to others.”

“We are forever grateful for the courage and sacrifice of Jeff Fiala and all the firefighters who put their lives on the line to protect our community,” said Mayor Rick Blangiardi. “Lighting our iconic city buildings in red is a powerful reminder of their heroism and a tribute to their families who have sacrificed so much.”

Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters was established by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) to mark the 25th anniversary of the foundation and the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend. Since its creation, the initiative has grown to include fire departments, cities, and families nationwide who light up their homes and landmarks in red as a symbol of gratitude and remembrance.

The City invites residents and businesses to participate by lighting their homes and buildings in red from April 27 to May 4 to honor the fallen and their families.
