HONOLULU — The City and County of Honolulu’s island-wide recovery efforts remain active as crews continue to clear debris, assess impacted areas, and offer services to assist those impacted by the Kona low storms. The City greatly appreciates our communities’ cooperation as recovery efforts continue.
Damage Assessments
The City continues to work with state and federal partners to assess damage in impacted communities. Thus far, the City has received 1,460 damage reports from community members and the City is now in the confirmation process. Preliminary assessments include:
• 23 homes destroyed
• 265 homes with major damage
• 35 homes temporarily inaccessible
Damage assessment teams remain in the field conducting additional inspections and outreach. Theses assessments are a vital component of securing federal disaster relief funds.
Residents are warned, however, to take precautions against potential scams. Do not give out personal information to unknown callers and do not trust people asking for money for aid.
Cleanup/Debris Removal
City crews and contractors are still actively removing debris in affected areas across the North Shore. Debris hauling operations continue at the temporary debris storage and reduction site at Patsy T. Mink Central Oʻahu Regional Park (CORP).
As of 3 p.m. today, 48 loads of debris have been brought to CORP, weighing an estimated 200 tons. Meanwhile, six loads, totaling an estimated at 65 tons were transported from CORP to the landfill.
Community Assistance Center (CAC)
More resources for those impacted by the Kona low storms are available at the Community Assistance Center (CAC) at Waialua District Park, including a free mobile clinic provided by Honolulu Emergency Medical Services. Today as of 3:30 p.m., 59 households have been assisted, increasing the total amount to more than 500 since the opening of the CAC on Thursday.
