City receives 23rd consecutive Excellence in Financial Reporting award

HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu has been recognized for outstanding government accounting and financial reporting with its 23rd consecutive Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).

The certificate recognizes excellence in the City’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2024. The award is GFOA’s highest form of recognition in the area of government accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management, according to GFOA.

“The City’s commitment to transparency and accountability in financial reporting provides a strong foundation for responsible decision-making and sustainable growth,” said Mayor Rick Blangiardi. “We remain committed to maintaining this level of excellence as we continue to serve and enhance the well-being of our community.”

An impartial panel determined the City’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report met GFOA’s high standards, including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the document.
