City provides Wednesday (April 1, 2026) afternoon Kona low update

HONOLULU — The City and County of Honolulu continues its comprehensive recovery response to the recent Kona low storms. Active cleanup operations are underway and updated community resources are being made to effectively support those impacted be the severe weather.

Sugar Mill Distribution Hub Relocation

Beginning Friday, April 3, operations at the Waialua Community Assistance Center (CAC) and the Sugar Mill distribution hub will be consolidated at Waialua District Park to streamline services and improve access for residents as recovery efforts continue on the North Shore.

The CAC will continue to operate daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and supply distribution will take place at a centralized location along the driveway outside the Waialua District Park gymnasium. TheBus Route 521 remains free for passengers in the Waialua and Haleʻiwa communities and serves Waialua District Park.

Waialua Fire Station Reopening

The Honolulu Fire Department’s Station 14 will return to its normal operations at its firehouse beginning tomorrow, Thursday, April 2. The station was temporarily relocated to Waialua District Park due to flooding.

Debris/Cleanup Removal

Debris hauling operations remain ongoing at the temporary debris storage and reduction site at Patsy T. Mink Central Oʻahu Regional Park (CORP). So far today, April 1, crews transported 10 loads (approximately 43 tons) of debris from Waialua to CORP. An additional 17 loads (approximately 200 tons) were transported from CORP to the landfill, and 2 loads (approximately 4 tons) were transported from CORP to a metal recycler.

Curbside storm debris collection in Waialua will take place on Monday, April 6, 2026. This is a one-day collection for Waialua residents only. Residents are asked to place storm debris at the curb by Sunday evening, April 5, to ensure pickup. Crews will conduct this collection while continuing regular operations and supporting ongoing recovery efforts.

Waipahu Convenience Center Notice: The Waipahu Convenience Center may experience temporary delays on Thursday, April 2, due to Hawaiian Electric utility work along Waipahu Depot Street between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Intermittent road closures may result in traffic delays of approximately 15 to 30 minutes. The Waipahu Convenience Center will remain open and continue normal operations during this time. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

The City appreciates the community’s continued cooperation and patience as recovery efforts continue.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

Honolulu EMS and the Crisis Outreach Response and Engagement (CORE) program donated and distributed more than 150,000 essential supplies to communities in Waialua and Waiʻanae impacted by the Kona low storms.

384 cans of alcohol wipes

7,200 Tyvek suits

127,750 masks

9,464 safety glasses

248 five-gallon water tanks

131 Dolphin water pumps

3,360 bottles of water

24 sharps containers

300 trash bags

The City has re-launched OneOahu.org, a centralized website serving as the hub for all storm recovery information following the recent Kona low event.

The site brings together critical resources, updates, and services in one easy-to-navigate location, ensuring residents impacted by the storm can quickly find the help they need. Information available on OneOahu.org includes debris removal updates, recovery timelines, assistance programs, community resources, and important contacts.

The website will be continuously updated as recovery efforts progress and additional services become available. Residents are encouraged to check the site regularly for the latest information.
