City postpones 2026 town hall meeting calendar as storm response, recovery efforts continue

HONOLULU — Mayor Rick Blangiardi announced Monday that the City and County of Honolulu is indefinitely postponing all scheduled 2026 town hall meetings as response and recovery efforts continue across Oʻahu following recent Kona low storms, and in anticipation of a potentially significant third Kona low storm system later this week.

The decision comes as City resources remain fully engaged in ongoing operations, particularly in communities that continue to experience impacts from flooding, debris, and infrastructure damage.

“These town halls are important to me and to our administration because they give us the opportunity to hear directly from our residents,” said Mayor Rick Blangiardi. “These recent storm systems have regrettably preempted our business as usual. Right now, our focus must remain on supporting our communities through recovery and making sure we are fully prepared for what may come next.

“This is going to be a long road, and postponing these meetings allows our teams to stay focused where they are needed most,” added Mayor Blangiardi.

The first town hall meeting of 2026 was scheduled to take place Thursday at Waiʻanae District Park, with subsequent meetings originally planned for Kapolei, Waimānalo and other communities across the island.

Despite the scheduled town hall meeting calendar being postponed indefinitely, Mayor Blangiardi remains committed to staying connected with residents and will continue to attend neighborhood board meetings in impacted areas as recovery efforts continue.

Residents are encouraged to continue accessing recovery resources and updates through the City’s official website and to stay informed by signing up for HNL Alert notifications.
