O‘AHU — The City and County of Honolulu will close park facilities across O‘ahu beginning on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, due to severe weather conditions affecting the island.
All Honolulu Botanical Gardens and Community Gardens will be closed to ensure the gardens are safe for residents and visitors. Staff will reassess conditions to determine when the gardens can safely reopen.
City park facilities will be closed to the public starting on Wednesday, March 11. This includes:
- Athletic fields
- Swimming pools
- Outdoor courts
- Gymnasiums (except those that may be designated as shelters, additional information to follow)
- People’s Open Markets
- All other outdoor park facilities
All permitted activities and park classes scheduled during this period are canceled.
The Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve will be closed on Wednesday, March 11.
Additionally, overnight camping at all City and County of Honolulu campgrounds will be suspended beginning at 6 p.m. (HST) on Tuesday, March 10, due to the forecast for severe weather in the coming days. The suspension will remain in effect through Sunday, March 15, when the current permitted camping period ends for five-day campgrounds.
The gymnasium at ‘Ewa Mahiko District Park will also be closed to the public beginning on Tuesday, March 10, so participants of the H.O.N.U. (Homeless Outreach and Navigation for the Unsheltered) program can be safely sheltered inside during the severe weather.
O‘ahu is currently under a Flood Watch with heavy rain expected to continue through Saturday, March 14.
Residents are urged to exercise caution around parks, trails, and other outdoor areas during severe weather, as falling branches, slippery conditions, and flooding may pose hazards.
