City opens Community Assistance Center at Waialua District Park for North Shore residents

HONOLULU —The City and County of Honolulu opened its new Community Assistance Center at Waialua District Park today to assist residents impacted by the recent Kona Low storm flooding. The center is located in the gymnasium at the park and will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

This community-driven, City-supported effort provides residents with access to in-person assistance, recovery resources, and information from City agencies, State agencies, utility providers, and community partners — all in one location.

Parking and transportation

Parking at Waialua District Park is limited. Additional parking can be located next door at Waialua Elementary School at 67-020 Waialua Beach Road, Waialua, Hawaii 96791. However, parking at the school is only available Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Parking is limited, so residents are encouraged to utilize alternative transportation, including TheBus Route 521 Waialua–Hale‘iwa to the Community Assistance Center. This service will be free. Check TheBus.org for Route 521 timetable and map.

Services at the Community Assistance Center will continue to expand, but below is a list of some of the resources currently available:

  • Honolulu Emergency Services Department (HESD) will provide basic medical assessments and care, assistance with replacing lost prescriptions, and treatment for minor illnesses and injuries.
  • Department of Planning and Permitting (DPP) will provide information and support for emergency permitting needs.
  • Department of Housing and Land Management (DHLM) will assist residents by providing information on available housing options in City properties.
  • Department of Customer Services (CSD) will assist with the replacement of lost driver’s licenses and state IDs, and provide information about registration fees for damaged or destroyed vehicles.
  • Department of Community Services (DCS) will offer kūpuna resources and handbooks, down payment and rental assistance, and other home support services.
  • The Board of Water Supply (BWS) will provide information on billing in impacted areas.
  • The Office of Economic Revitalization (OER) will offer assistance for businesses and farmers, along with language access support.
  • The Hawaiʻi State Department of Health, Vital Records office will assist residents in replacing lost documents, including birth, marriage, and death certificates.
  • The Hawaiʻi State Department of Health, Environmental Health will answer questions and provide information about safe clean up.

Additional services from community partners, including the Salvation Army, American Red Cross, Aloha United Way, Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies, and Hawaiʻi Foodbank, will be available to provide financial assistance and food support.

Utility providers and internet and phone service companies will also be on site to assist residents experiencing service disruptions.

Free Wi-Fi will be available at the site, along with a charging station for phones, computers, and other devices. Residents are encouraged to bring their own charging cords if possible.
