HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu Department of Facility Maintenance is advising the public of an upcoming roadway rehabilitation project on 22nd Avenue in Kaimukī, in the vicinity of Kilauea District Park.
Construction is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, and is expected to continue for approximately two months. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The project will include clearing the roadway shoulder and installing a confinement system with aggregate and concrete to help prevent erosion. While crews will not be working directly in the roadway, certain construction activities will require contraflow traffic. The contractor will coordinate with residents and businesses to ensure continued access for deliveries, trash collection, and emergency services.
To prepare for the project, “No Parking” signs will be posted along the work zone at least one week prior to the start of construction. Drivers are reminded to observe posted restrictions, as vehicles parked in designated areas during construction hours will be towed at the owner’s expense. Motorists should anticipate detours, lane shifts, and possible delays, and are encouraged to allow extra travel time when driving through the area. Please follow all posted traffic controls and directions from flaggers.
Some dust and noise are expected during construction; however, the contractor will implement mitigation measures to minimize the impact on the community. Every effort will be made to complete the work as efficiently as possible while minimizing inconvenience to nearby residents and park users.
The Department of Facility Maintenance appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as we work to improve infrastructure and protect our community’s roadways.
