DFM crews out at ‘Uluhew / Courtest City & County of Honolulu
HONOLULU — The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Facility Maintenance (DFM) is urging residents to take proactive steps to help keep storm drains clear and reduce the risk of flooding in their neighborhoods as storms move through the area.
City crews are actively preparing by clearing storm drains, culverts, and affected stream areas across O‘ahu, while closely monitoring weather and drainage conditions islandwide.
While the City continues this proactive work, residents can help by taking simple steps around their homes and communities:
How residents can help reduce flooding:
- Clear leaves, trash, and loose debris from areas near storm drains
- Properly bag and secure yard waste
- Secure outdoor items that could be washed into streets or streams
- Ensure debris does not enter roadways, drainage systems, or waterways
These actions help keep water flowing and reduce the risk of localized flooding during periods of heavy rainfall.
Public safety remains a top priority. Residents are reminded:
- Do not enter streams, drainage ditches, or flooded areas
- Do not attempt to move large debris
- Leave hazardous cleanup work to trained City crews
For immediate storm drain cleaning requests or to report an area that requires urgent attention, residents may email dfmroads@honolulu.gov. All other non-emergency service requests can be submitted through the HNL311 mobile app.
