Junior Lifeguards

Junior Lifeguards is a program for youths 11 – 17 sponsored by the City and County of Honolulu to promote ocean safety and awareness.

About the Junior Lifeguards Program

The Honolulu Ocean Safety Department’s Junior Lifeguard Program offers children the opportunity to learn valuable lifesaving skills from some of the best lifeguards in the country. Participants will gain knowledge about ocean conditions, rescue techniques, CPR, physical fitness, and teamwork—all while making lifelong friends.

Information on the 2025 program will be posted below and updated, so keep checking back!

2025 Junior Lifeguard Program hosted by the Ocean Safety Department

The program is open to keiki ages 11-17, as of June 1, 2025.

The safety of your keiki is our primary concern, but we also want to impart some practical life-saving techniques that might help them or anyone nearby. Just make sure they come ready to learn and ready to have fun!

Honolulu Ocean Safety partners with a number of community supporters for this unique offering, and instruction is conducted by current city Lifeguards — among the very best watermen and waterwomen in the world.

Keiki may sign up only for one of the 1-week sessions, so that we can reach as many youth as we can this summer. The 1-week clinics run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday. Registration will be on May 1, 2025 at 8am. For safety reasons, each session will be limited to 50 participants. This will also allow us to offer a better and more personal experience for your keiki. Please look at the schedule below, we feel that there will be opportunity for everyone with dates and locations offered. Participant’s that register for more than one session will have their latter registration removed so that we can have the opportunity to reach as many keiki as possible.

Please click on your session below beginning May 1, 2025 to register. Parents are able to register siblings on one registration form by clicking “add participant” in the form.
