When
For over seven decades the City and County of Honolulu has honored a solemn promise to adorn every grave at Pūowaina (the National Memorial Cemetary of the Pacific at Punchbowl) with a fresh lei for Memorial Day. This uniquely Hawaiian display of gratitude is our way of saying “mahalo” to our veterans for their service. Now we need your assistance to commemorate their sacrifice by helping us make and gather 38,000 lei for every servicemember laid to rest at the cemetery.
We have several lei-sewing opportunities at City locations around O‘ahu on Friday, May 23, 2025. If you can’t stay to make lei, you may also drop off lei or flower donations at these sites. Plumeria, crown flower, and ti leaves are preferred. Already made lei only need to be 10″-11″ when tied. A small kine effort can go a long way to help us “Sew a Lei for Memorial Day!”
