Board of Water Supply (BWS) – [0:09:50]: Kathleen Elliott-Pahinui (Public Information Officer) provided the report and highlighted the following: no main breaks in the district last month; provided a flyer for the O’ahu Household Questionnaire; BWS is asking O’ahu residents to participate in the questionnaire to help BWS create programs that could help O’ahu households have more affordable and consistent access to water; the questionnaire will take 5 to 10 minutes to complete and all personal information collected will not be shared or disclosed.

Military Representative Report – [0:11:44]: Lieutenant Colonel Melander reported the following: training advisories for the month of August 2024 include East Range jungle and ranger tactics during the daytime from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.  remaining throughout the rest of the month, East Range aviation training throughout the day only; artillery and mortar fire training on Schofield Barracks will consist of day and night live fire, including late evening and early morning hours between the hours of 6:00 a.m. to midnight; upcoming October 2024 will be the Joint Pacific Multi-National Readiness Center Exercise; more details will be provided for the October joint exercise at the next regular Board meeting; follow-up response for the notice made across Garrison about the park facilities and notifying all the brigade levels if they use City owned district parks for organized group activities.

Member Rogers commented if there aren’t any officers who wanted to resign their officer positions that they can make a motion to keep all the officers the same if the Board has a unanimous consent.

Mililani Middle School Parking Lot – [0:20:42]: Audrey Hidano (Hawaii State Department of Education Interim Superintendent) updated the Board on the Mililani Middle School parking lot legal agreement dispute and to receive feedback from the public. The Hawaii State Department of Education (DOE) and the City are currently working on the language of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The DOE is allowing the public to use the J Parking Lot (other lot on the school property separate from the main parking lot) but will request requirements from the City. Audrey shared the DOE’s current requested requirements on the MOU.

Office of Mayor Rick Blangiardi – [0:40:16]: Deputy Director Carrie Castle (Department of Budget and Fiscal Services) provided the report and highlighted the following: the Mayor has put together a wildfire working group consisting of Honolulu Fire Department, Honolulu Police Department, Hawaiian Electric Company, and led by Honolulu Emergency Management; the working group is in place to do coordination and planning for wildfire preparedness; July 2024 is the start of the new fiscal year;  shared the Mayor’s priorities for the new budget year; the City Council has introduced a number of real property bills this year; the City Budget and Fiscal Services Department is asking City Council to form a permitted interaction group to strategically evaluate the different real property tax bills that are being introduced by City Council members.

Committee Co-Chair Hudson provided the report on Mililani Ike Elementary, Mililani Mauka Elementary, Wheeler Middle, and Leilehua High. Co-Chair Hudson highlighted the following: Mililani Ike Elementary Student Council and Campus Patrol Officers will participate in the Mililani High School Homecoming Parade on Saturday, September 14, 2024; Mililani Mauka Elementary School held their first School Community Council meeting for the 2024-2025 school year on Tuesday, August 6, 2024; Mililani Mauka Elementary will host their first fundraiser at the Mililani Mauka McDonald’s on Thursday, August 22, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Wheeler Middle School has on ongoing fundraiser at all Papa John’s Pizza.
