Kāneʻohe Marine Corps Base – [0:49:01]: Kristi Kaluhiwa introduced Colin Lee from the University of Hawai’i and the new Kāneʻohe Marine Corps Base Community Planning and Liaison Officer Tiffany Patrick, both of whom shared background information about themselves, including relating to residing in Kailua. Mr. Lee shared information about the Climate Resilience Collaborative Ko’olau Poko Community Resilience project, which the University of Hawai’i School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology and the City and County of Honolulu Office of Climate Change, Sustainability, and Resilience are implementing through a grant from the U.S. Department of Defense. Hui ʻUlu Meaʻai Waiāhole Hydropower Project – [1:27:32]: Resident Amy Luersen provided a briefing about this project. In addition to having spoken about this project in the Board’s last meeting, she also referenced a community meeting on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at Kahaluʻu Elementary School.

Hui ʻUlu Meaʻai Waiāhole Hydropower Project¬ ¬– Continued — [1:53:11]: Member Reppun read a resolution. Vice Chair Makaʻinaʻi asked the Neighborhood Assistant to speak due to the resolution was not listed on the agenda [1:56:07]. Neighborhood Assistant Rachel Cristobal explained that due to the item not being listed under Board Business, if the Board continues to decide to vote and the resolution passes and a complaint is receive, the Board is required to have the item listed on the next meetingʻs agenda to do a vote again. Makaʻinaʻi MOVED and Bender SECONDED to support a resolution to explore the potential of a hydropower project for the community. Discussion followed. A roll call vote was taken. Ko’olau Resilience Hub Network Symposium – [2:08:54]: Joe Wat of the KEY Project announced the Ko’olau Resilience Hub Network Symposium will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024 at Windward Community College from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. He provided background information relating to the Castle Foundation and Vibrant Hawaii with respect to organizing community groups. He stated that City Department of Environmental Services Director Roger Babcock will talk about Bill 60 and sewer fee increases.
