State Senator Brenton Awa – [0:42:26]: Makana provided the report and highlighted the following: updates on Senate Bill (SB) 1582 recognizing the coconut tree as a food source and SB 242 prohibiting foreign entities from owning agricultural land; Senator Awa and other legislators will be traveling to Washington, DC, to meet with federal and national department officials; and Senator Awa’s office will be working with several schools to launch the Genki pilot project.

State House Representative Sean Quinlan – [0:50:29]: Representative Sean Quinlan provided the report and highlighted the following: 5 million dollars of state budget for the improvement of Kahuku Medical Center; 100,000 dollars of the state budget for Hulio Kailua for their efforts; secured funds for the nonprofit organization iBounce Up; the passing of House Bill 969 preventing the building of a landfill in the community; and updates regarding biosecurity against the coconut rhinoceros beetles and Little Fire Ants.

The Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA) Presentation – [1:08:51]: Kalei Akaka provided a presentation about OHA. OHA was created in 1978, and their mission is to better the conditions of the Native Hawaiian people in four strategic directions: education, health, quality housing, and economic stability. OHA’s Board of Trustees meets bi-monthly, on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month, and their committees meet bi-monthly, on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month.

Community Healing, Health & Happiness (CH3) – [1:48:48]: Branch Nautu did a demonstration and provided information about CH3. CH3 is a health non-profit organization that provides services to foster mental, physical, and emotional health through accessible resources, community support, and empowering initiatives.

V. COMMITTEES – [2:09:45]

Parks and Recreation – [2:09:50]: Member Unga provided an update on Ed Sniffen’s meeting with the Department of Transportation regarding the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant Kahuku shared pedestrian and bike path. Construction is proposed to start in December 2026 to December 2027. Updates on the Kahuku District Park pool and recreational center: the department is scheduling a follow-up meeting in the next month.

Community Resilience/Emergency Preparedness – [2:12:24]: Member Kelly-Paddock announced the annual Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training on Saturday, September 13, 2025, Saturday, September 27, 2025, and Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the Hauʻula Community Center; a reminder that an emergency food pod is located at the Hauʻula Resilience Hub in preparation for the hurricane season; an Emergency Preparedness Fair is scheduled on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Resilience Hub Park; and updates on the Resilience Hub.

Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) Survey – [2:18:54]: A resident announced that he is running a survey to gather feedback for HDOT regarding transportation.

Remembrance – [2:19:27]: Resident Shafer announced the passing of Junior Primacio.

Ewe – [2:19:46]: Resident Shafer informed the community that the OHA Island Burial Council had discovered two iwi Kupuna near the Turtle Bay Resort project and near the runway.

Neighborhood Board Elections – [2:20:25]: Kevin Lye (Neighborhood Board #13) shared the alleged errors in Neighborhood Board Election process.
