D. Waialua Skate Board Park (Kathleen Pahinui)

E. Discuss Parks Committee report to November 26, 2024 Board meeting

III. ANNOUNCEMENTS
A. Next Meeting: Wednesday, January 8, 2024, 6:00 p.m. at Waialua Community Association, 66-434 Kamehameha Highway, Haleʻiwa, HI 96712. Parks Committee will recess their December 2024 meeting.

PARKS COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
WEDNESDAY, October 16, 2024
HALEʻIWA ALIʻI BEACH PARK
7:00 A.M. – 8:00 A.M.

1. Introductions & Call to Order: 7:06AM
Members Present: Alex Kahl (Vice Chair), Erica Lehmkuhl (Secretary), Sharlyn Foo, Debbie Aldrich
Public Present: Cy Yamanoha, Terry Yamanoha
Not Present, Excused: Denise Antolini (Chair)
Not Present, Unexcused: Racquel Achiu, Leif Andersen

2. September 18, 2024, Parks Committee meeting minutes approved.

3. Community Concerns:
a. Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle and palm tree removal are great concerns. What trees will be replacing the palms being removed? There are piles of palm fronds near the west side of Haleʻiwa Aliʻi park. Why haven’t they been removed?
b. A few members of the public would like to see a pull-up bar installed for surfers and others to work out.
c. More picnic tables or benches near the ocean to watch surfers and the ocean requested.
d. Fire ants and biting red ants are concerns. Ant hills noticeable throughout the park.
e. Requests for posted signs with rules for visitors and residents (Park hours, don’t touch turtles, etc.).
f. Members would like to see designated areas for tour/shuttle bus drop off and signs with information on how to report tour/shuttle buses breaking the commercial activity rules.

4. Priority of maintenance/development at Haleʻiwa Aliʻi Beach Park:
a. Drinking fountain near surf center inoperable.
b. Bathrooms in need of interior paint. Concrete is exposed in multiple places.
c. Telephone pole barriers are rotting away allowing some to drive into the park at night onto the grass and destroy the grass by doing donuts and driving dangerously.
d. The road adjacent to the park floods because the drainpipe on the West side of the park is clogged with sand and debris.

5. Parks Maintenance Overall:
a. Grass was being cut while the committee was present.

6. Announcement: The next Parks Committee meeting will be Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 7:00AM at Waimea Bay Beach Park.
