The next board meeting will be on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. The Pearl City Neighborhood Board No. 21 meetings are broadcasted on Focus Channel 49 and air 2nd Saturday at 6:00 PM and 1st and 3rd Friday at 1:00 PM.

Chair Veray reviewed the time limit policy and procedures before conducting a roll call. Quorum WAS established with eight (8) members present. Note: This 11-member board requires six (6) members to establish a quorum and to take official Board action.

Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) – [0:03:48]: Firefighter John Paulo provided the monthly statistics April 2025; responses to questions asked in the previous meeting; and May 2025 safety tip regarding home fire sprinklers.
• April 2025 Statistics: There was 1 nuisance fire, 2 cooking fires, 1 activated alarms without fire, 142 medical emergencies, 7 motor vehicle crash/collisions, and 1 mountain rescue.

Honolulu Police Department (HPD) – [0:05:40]: Lieutenant Sakai provided the monthly statistics for April 2025 and May 2025 safety tip regarding drinking and driving safety
• April 2025 Statistics: There were 6 motor vehicle thefts, 7 burglaries, 30 thefts, 7 Unauthorized Entry into Motor Vehicles (UEMV), 1,437 total calls for service.

Councilmember Val Okimoto – [0:23:46]: Councilmember Val Okimoto provided the report and highlighted the following: full council meeting on Wednesday, June 4, 2025; the Honolulu City Council is reviewing the fiscal year 2026 budget regarding a $5.14 billion package prioritizing infrastructure, housing, and public safety; Councilmember Okimoto attended a high school graduation a couple of weeks ago at the Hawaiʻi Convention Center and presented certificates to the Pearl City Neighborhood Board members. Chair Veray also presented certificates to board members not returning in the next term.

Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam – [0:42:08]: Kris Tanahara and JoAnna Delfn provided the report and highlighted the following: information regarding monthly ship tours and community white boat tour dates; the continued preservation efforts of the USS Arizona Memorial; responses to questions asked in the previous meeting; and the Navy Closure Task Force Red Hill hosted their quarterly open house on May 21, 2025, at the Hokulani Community Center.

Board Recognition of Members and Officials – [0:47:52]: Chair Veray presented certificates to Duna Hodge for his retirement as a public affairs specialist for the Navy Closure Task Force-Red Hill, Board Member Volunteer of the Year, and End of Term for Board Members.

Chair Report on Outcome of Meeting with Dep Dir Parks and Recreation – [1:00:40]: Chair Veray had a meeting with Deputy Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation, Ted Hayden, regarding the status of Mānana Kai Park restroom repair; a proposal to develop an agreement with the U.S. Navy for access to Pearl City Peninsula; building sport ball fields for keiki; a proposed agreement for a restricted water recreation area off of Neal Blaisdell Park; a proposal to build a dog park at Neal Blaisdell Park; updates to the Japanese Peace Bell; a proposed plan to adopt Pearl City Neighborhood Parks; certifying more youth with swimming qualifications; and the status of implementing the Aiea Pearl City Livable Communities Plan.

Pearl City Library – [2:15:26]: Vicky Bowie provided the report and highlighted the following: the Pearl City Library will be closed on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, in observance of Kamehameha, and the annual summer reading challenge will start on Sunday, June 1, 2025, and end on Thursday, July 31, 2025.
