Medications

While some medications can be disposed of safely on your own, events for disposal of unused medications occur periodically.  
Medication Drop Box Programs:
  Year round drop-off for excess or unused medications. See the links below for details and accepted types.

  • The Hawai‘i Opioid Initiative drop box is located at the state Narcotics Enforcement Division – 3375 Koapaka Street, #D-100, Honolulu. Visit the  Hawai‘i Opioid Initiative website for more information and up-to-date drop box locations.
  • Longs Drugs has 9 O‘ahu locations with medication drop boxes. These disposal bins accept prescription medications, over-the-counter medications and liquid medication bottles. See Medical Disposal Program details. Store locations are listed below.
    • Hau‘ula – 54-316 Kamehameha Highway
    • Honolulu – 2470 South King Street and 1620 North School Street
    • Kaneohe – 46047 Kamehameha Highway, Suite C
    • Kapolei – 590 Farrington Highway, Unit 300
    • Pearl City – 850 Kamehameha Highway, Suite 107
    • Wai‘anae – 86-120 Farrington Highway

  • Safeway Grocery Stores have 5 O‘ahu locations with a pharmacy inside that have takeback bins. These bins are for unused, unwanted, or expired medications. For more information, contact the pharmacy at one of the store locations below.
