HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Environmental Services (ENV) is notifying residents in the Kawailoa area that night work will begin tonight, Monday Aug. 25 and run through Friday, Aug. 29, as well as next week Tuesday, Sept. 2 through Friday, Sept. 5 as part of ongoing construction at Kawailoa Refuse Transfer Station, 62-180 Kawailoa Drive, Haleiwa, HI 96712.
Work will take place nightly from 6 p.m. (after the transfer station closes) until 3 a.m. Work will include paving and guardrail replacement of the ramp that goes to the top of the load-out dumping area. Temporary steel plates and safety barriers will be in place on the ramp during this period.
Residents are advised that there may be construction noise, dust and the use of bright lighting necessary for safe operations. ENV apologizes for the inconvenience and appreciates the community’s patience as this necessary work is completed.
“The work weʻre doing now is an important investment in maintaining safe and reliable operations at the Kawailoa Refuse Transfer Station,” Roger Babcock, Department of Environmental Services Director said. “We understand night construction can be disruptive, and we are grateful to the community for their patience as we complete these improvements as quickly and safely as possible.”
The construction activity will not affect transfer station operating hours or access for residents. The facility will remain open during its normal hours, daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
