Aiea, Hawaii – The Department of Environmental Services responded to a sewage spill in Aiea this morning at 99-822 Holoai Street..
ENV received the call at 7:40 a.m. and arrived at the site at 8:16 a.m. The spill ended at 9:40 a.m. and crews are continuing to clean, disinfect and deodorize the site.
Roughly 1,000 gallons of wastewater spilled from a sewer manhole due to root intrusion in the area. ENV crews recovered 500 gallons from the ground while 100 dissipated into the ground. Roughly 400 gallons entered a storm drain and ENV crews were able to recover 300 gallons.
The state Department of Health has been notified and posting of signs and sampling have been waived.
