City responds quickly to spill in Kahaluʻu

KAPOLEI The Department of Environmental Services responded to a sewage spill in Kahaluʻu this morning at the intersection of Kahekili Highway and Hui Iwa Street.

ENV received the call at 8:15 a.m., arrived at the site at 9 a.m., and contained the spill upon arrival.

Roughly 1,000 gallons of wastewater spilled due to a leak in an Air Relief Valve (ARV). ENV’s crew was able to recover 500 gallons and the rest drained into the ground.  ENV cleaned, disinfected, and deodorized the affected area.

The state Department of Health was notified of the spill and posting of signs was waived due to the lack of accessibility to the area.
