City refuse drop-off facilities to remain closed through weekend due to severe weather

Curbside Refuse Collection Suspended for Waialua

HONOLULU — The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Environmental Services (ENV) announces that all refuse convenience centers, transfer stations, and the Waimānalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill will remain closed to the public on Saturday, March 21 due to ongoing severe weather conditions.

Conditions will continue to be evaluated each morning to determine if it is safe to reopen. Look for press releases to confirm when the facilities reopen. The public can also look on the ENV website to view the streaming cameras which show the entrance gates or traffic flow to verify whether they are open (www.honolulu.gov/env/ref/waste-drop-off-locations).

These closures are being implemented to ensure the safety of residents and staff during this period.

Residents planning to dispose of excess green waste, as well as any household refuse, bulky items or other materials, are advised to store these materials until convenience center and transfer stations reopen.

Curbside Collection

Regular curbside refuse collection for Waialua is suspended until Sunday, March 22, due to severe weather conditions impacting Oʻahu, but curbside collection of gray, blue and green carts in all other areas on the island will continue on its normal schedule unless otherwise announced.

Residents are still encouraged to leave their bins out to be collected when resources are available.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updates at honolulu.gov/env, follow ENV on social media and sign up for notifications through HNL Alert.

ENV appreciates the public’s patience as we prioritize safety during this time.
