E-waste Recycling at City Disposal Sites

The city’s Department of Environmental Services Refuse Division recently installed E-waste disposal bins at all of its convenience centers and transfer stations. Below are the acceptable and unacceptable items that may be placed in the bins. All items collected will be recycled.

MATERIAL DISPOSAL METHOD

Acceptable items:

  • A computer, computer printer, computer monitor, or portable computer with a screen size greater than four-inches measured diagonally.
  • Any device that is capable of receiving broadcast, cable, or satellite signals and displaying television or video programing, including any direct view or projection television with a viewable screen of 9-inches or larger with display technology based on cathode ray tube, plasma, liquid crystal, digital light processing, liquid crystal on silicon, silicon crystal reflective display, light emitting diode, or similar technology.

  • Monitors
  • CRT Monitors
  • Laptops
  • Tablets
  • Peripherals (Wires, Keyboards, computer mouse, etc.)
  • Unmanaged Switches (Hubs)
  • Managed Switches (Hubs)
  • Standalone hotspot, such as Jetpack of MiFi
  • Voice over IP (VOIP) Telephones
  • Modems
  • Digital/Analog Converters
  • Hard Drives
  • TVs/Teleconference Devices
  • Multifunction Devices (print, scan, copy, fax, etc.)
  • Stand-alone Printers
  • Stand-alone Scanners
  • Large Format Scanners
  • Projectors
  • FAX Machines

Acceptable items may be taken to any of the city’s disposal sites.

Unacceptable Items:

  • Global positioning system (GPS). Device or component that was part of a motor vehicle.
  • Device that is functionally or physically part of commercial, medical, etc. equipment.
  • Device contained within an appliance.
  • Telephones including mobile phones, but excluding VOIP.
  • Global positioning system (GPS).
