Department of
Environmental Services

Ka ʻOihana Lawelawe Kaiāpuni
You may think of us as the Department that takes care of everything we donʻt want anymore–wastewater, trash and green waste. But our larger mission is far-reaching: to protect our ʻaina and develop a sustainable future for our children.

The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Environmental Services (ENV) works every day to keep Oʻahu clean, healthy and sustainable for current and future generations. From treating 96 million gallons of wastewater daily to collecting trash and green waste across the island, ENV ensures that what our community discards is managed safely and responsibly to protect our environment.

Beyond providing essential services, ENV fosters a shared sense of responsibility for caring for our island home. By partnering with residents, businesses and government agencies, we encourage stewardship and collective action to preserve Oʻahu’s beauty and resources so our keiki can enjoy a cleaner, safer and thriving environment for generations to come.

If you have questions, please reach out to the ENV Public Information Officer at env@honolulu.gov. Together, we’re working for a cleaner, safer O‘ahu.
