School Traffic Monitors (Crossing Guard)

Give back to your community!
You can be a part of positive change in your neighborhood by making it safer for keiki to cross the road to/from school. Let a child’s smile brighten your day!
Schools are in need of School Traffic Monitors (STM), also known as Crossing Guards. Parents feel much more comfortable letting their child walk to school if a STM is present.
Here is what you need to know:
- Stand at a designated intersection and help pedestrians cross the street safely to/from school. Kids will love to greet you in the morning and after school!
- One hour in the morning (45-minutes prior to the start of school to 15-minutes after the start of school). At most schools this means 7:15am to 8:15am, Monday through Friday.
- One hour in the afternoon (15-minutes prior to the end of school to 45-minutes after the end of school). At most schools this means 2:00pm to 3:00pm, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and 1:15pm to 2:15pm on Wednesday.
- Work every day the school is in session with no work during school holidays or when school is on breaks.
- Official STMs are hired and paid by the City and County of Honolulu Police Department (HPD). The current pay is $16.56 per hour.

Contact the SRTS Coodinator at (808)768-8312 or cchsrts@honolulu.gov
The SRTS Coordinator can get you in touch with a school principal and HPD. With principal approval, HPD will conduct a background check, training, physical check, and provide equipment (gloves, stop sign, vest). It takes approximately four months from principal approval for the individual to be officially hired as an STM.
