Intersection of Halekauwila Street and Cooke Street closed to vehicular traffic

The intersection of Halewauwila and Cooke that will be closed

HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu Department of Transportation Services (DTS) has closed the intersection of Halekauwila Street and Cooke Street near Mother Waldron Park due to the discovery of a sinkhole in the intersection.

All vehicles will be prohibited from crossing the intersection until further notice. Barriers and signage are installed at all four approaches to the intersection.

Halekauwila Street is limited to local traffic only between Coral Street and Cooke Street and Cooke Street and Kamani Street.

Cooke Street is limited to local traffic only between Ilaniwai and Halekauwila Street and Halekauwila Street and Pohukaina Street. Driveways for residences and businesses in the area are not affected.

Pedestrians will still be allowed to cross the intersection, but may not cross Cooke Street using the mauka crosswalk in the ‘Ewa-Diamond Head direction. Cones are in place to warn pedestrians away from the sinkhole area.

Please avoid the intersection if possible and exercise patience while traveling through the area.
