City implements Lanikai parking restrictions for the New Year’s Eve Weekend and traffic controls for Kalapawai Roundabout project

KAILUA – The City and County of Honolulu Department of Transportation Services (DTS) will be restricting parking in the Lanikai area from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. beginning Saturday, December 31, in an effort to reduce traffic congestion for residents along the Lanikai-Kaʻōhao shoreline during the New Year’s weekend. The parking restriction will continue through mid-January to help reduce traffic congestion related to construction in the area.
Parking along Makaliʻi Place, right outside of Lanikai, will also be restricted. DTS will monitor traffic flows and will adjust restrictions if necessary.
No parking will be allowed on Makaliʻi Place in Kailua, and on all streets and shoulders of Mokulua and ʻAʻalapapa Drives in Lanikai from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. starting December 31.
Parking will also be restricted on cross-streets connecting Mokulua and ʻAʻalapapa Drives.
DTS will leave in place temporary “sawhorse” type signs on affected streets in Kailua and Lanikai to warn drivers of the parking restrictions.
DTS will also be allowing vehicles to detour through the Kailua Beach Park to get around the Kailua Road and Kalāheo Avenue roundabout construction starting on Friday, December 30. Residents traversing through this area should allow for extra time to get through Kalapawai and expect congestion during construction times.
