Ala Wai Complete Streets final community meeting to take place October 26

HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu Department of Transportation Services (DTS) is announcing the final community meeting for the Ala Wai Complete Streets project, happening on Wednesday, October 26^th. The meeting will be virtual via Zoom, at 6 p.m. 

The meeting will discuss proposed changes to Ala Wai Boulevard. Improvement plans have been developed based on detailed traffic studies, crash history, and public input gathered over the past two years. This will be the last community meeting before the plans are finalized. DTS encourages those who live, work, play, and travel along Ala Wai Boulevard to participate and provide input to guide the design of this project. The project proposes a street design that better balances the various demands on the street, including local and through traffic, parking, and non-vehicular activity. Vehicle capacity will be maintained through new daytime parking restrictions along the west end of the corridor where traffic volumes are higher.

As an important street in urban Honolulu, Ala Wai Boulevard connects residents, visitors, and businesses within Waikīkī and to the surrounding neighborhoods. The purpose of the Ala Wai Boulevard Complete Streets project is to make the street safer for everyone, including those walking, jogging, using a wheelchair, on a bike, and in private vehicles.
