Waipi‘o Soccer Complex closing June 2025 for field maintenance
MAY 6, 2025 – In the continued effort to maintain ideal field conditions at the island’s premier soccer facility, the City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) will be closing Waipi‘o Peninsula Soccer Complex for June 2025.
This month-long closure will allow for a variety of intensive field and facility maintenance projects to be completed, including:
- Field aeration
- Verticutting (lawn care to clear top thatch buildup)
- Weed control
- Fertilizing
- Soil cultivation
- Irrigation repairs
- Sidewalk maintenance
- Renovating traffic islands
- Power washing
- Additional plumbing inspections & repairs
Though regular maintenance is conducted on the complex’s facilities, this closure will provide the opportunity to rejuvenate the fields and amenities without the regular wear-and-tear of consistent usage. This, along with the much-appreciated assistance from Adopt-a-Park volunteers, will allow DPR to keep the facilities in pristine condition and available for practice and tournament use.
While closures and designated rest periods of this nature have been consistent at Waipi‘o Soccer since Summer 2022, we appreciate the patience and understanding of park users as we conduct this necessary maintenance.

The Waipiʻo Soccer Complex is the first and only soccer facility of its kind in the State of Hawaiʻi with 21 regulation fields, including a 5,000-seat stadium with lights for evening events. The 288-acre complex is designed to serve the tens of thousands of soccer players in Hawai‘i, while hosting local and international tournaments.
The complex is also used to raise revenues by attracting soccer teams from the Continental U.S. and around the world to practice or sponsor tournaments at the facility. The Waipiʻo Soccer Stadium is also the home field for the University of Hawaiʻi Women’s Soccer Team. Local high school soccer championship games are also held at the stadium. The lighted stadium field includes locker rooms, restrooms, offices, a referee room and storage areas. Call (808) 768-6883 for more information.
