Hanauma Bay Marine Life

Table of Contents

Home to hundreds of species of marine life from a diverse set of scientific groupings, the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve offers a remarkable array of Hawai‘i’s unique biodiversity. Ranging from the endangered to endemic, some of the marine life you’ll experience at HBAY is truly one-of-a-kind. Pictured above are two of the most famous residents of the bay, the Hawaiian Monk Seal (‘īlio holo i ka uaua, Neomonachus schauinslandi) on the left, and the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle (Honu, Chelonia mydas) on the right. Below are a series of galleries of some of the amazing marine life you can see at HBAY, compiled with pictures and information courtesy of the Hawai‘i Institute of Marine Biology, the Hanauma Bay Education Program, and State Department of Land and Natural Resources.
