Lessons from Seattle: Advancing Transit-Oriented Development in Honolulu
DHLM staff participated in the OahuMPO Project Management Mobile Workshop in Seattle, gaining firsthand insight into how transit and housing planning can be coordinated to support walkable, connected neighborhoods. Lessons learned will help inform ongoing transit-oriented redevelopment efforts around the Kūwili Station area in Iwilei.
City completes conservation of final 3.5 acres to protect Paikō Ridge hillside
The City and County of Honolulu, through its Department of Housing and Land Management (DHLM) and the Clean Water and Natural Lands (CWNL) program, announced the successful closing of a conservation easement on October 3, 2025, to permanently protect 3.497 acres at Paikō Ridge in Kuliʻouʻou. The $1,700,000 investment secures the final remaining privately owned section of the Paikō Ridge hillside, completing a decades-long effort to preserve the entire ridgeline in perpetuity — safeguarding cultural sites, natural habitat, and watershed lands for future generations.
Center for Public Enterprise visits Honolulu to support innovative housing finance
From October 22–24, 2025, the Center for Public Enterprise (CPE) visited Honolulu to collaborate with the Department of Housing and Land Management (DHLM) and partners across City and State government on strategies to make housing more affordable and attainable for local families.
City selects Pacific Housing Assistance Corporation to lead affordable workforce housing development at 130 South Beretania Street
The City and County of Honolulu has selected nonprofit developer Pacific Housing Assistance Corporation (Pacific Housing) as its preferred negotiating partner to develop affordable housing at 130 South Beretania Street — the state’s first disability-forward workforce housing community — helping to further revitalize downtown Honolulu.
DHLM at the Priced Into Paradise Expo 2025
The Department of Housing and Land Management (DHLM) joined hundreds of community members at the 2025 Priced Into Paradise Expo at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center, engaging attendees at its outreach booth with information on housing programs, employment opportunities, and the City’s rental portfolio. The event provided a valuable chance for residents to connect directly with DHLM staff, learn about available resources, and explore pathways to stay rooted in Hawaiʻi.
Financing secured for Kūhiō Park Terrace Redevelopment; 302 affordable units coming to Kalihi
The City, together with the Hawaiʻi Public Housing Authority (HPHA), today announced the financial closing for the first phase of the Kūhiō Park Terrace redevelopment — a multi-year, multi-phase effort to revitalize one of Kalihi’s largest public housing communities. Read more.
