Today, partners and community members gathered in Kalihi for a ground blessing marking the next chapter of the Kūhiō Park Terrace Redevelopment.
Originally built in the 1950s, Kūhiō Park Terrace has served generations of families and remains a cornerstone of the Kalihi community. Light rain passed through during the ceremony as leaders and residents came together to reaffirm a shared commitment to reinvesting in housing that meets the needs of today’s families. When complete, this $214 million, multi-phase effort will replace aging structures with 302 new affordable rental homes, creating safe, modern housing designed to serve the Kalihi community for decades to come.
The City is playing a critical role in making this project possible, investing more than $115 million through Private Activity Bonds and the City’s Affordable Housing Fund to help deliver deeply affordable homes for local families.
“The time has come to invest in the future,” said Mayor Blangiardi. “This redevelopment will create safe, modern, and affordable homes while also strengthening the Kalihi community with the services and amenities families deserve.”
“Kūhiō Park Terrace has been a cornerstone of the Kalihi community for generations,” said Josh Green, M.D. “This redevelopment shows what is possible when the State and City work side by side with private partners and the community to create homes that are safe, modern, and truly affordable.”
Today’s blessing marks an important milestone as this long-term redevelopment effort moves forward. For more information, please visit https://www.kuhiopark.com.
