Department of Housing and Land Management Director Kevin Auger joined affordable housing leaders from across Hawaiʻi and the country at the Novogradac 2026 Fall Affordable Housing Conference, held Sept. 16–17 in Waikīkī.
Director Auger delivered keynote remarks highlighting the City and County of Honolulu’s efforts to expand affordable housing opportunities and DHLM’s work to bring housing development, financing, policy and land management together under one department.
Novogradac is a national professional services organization specializing in affordable housing, community development and tax-credit financing. The conference brought together developers, investors, lenders, housing agencies and government leaders to discuss Hawaiʻi’s affordable housing landscape and the financing tools that help make projects possible.
Scott Glenn, senior adviser for federal affairs, climate and housing in the Office of Gov. Josh Green, also addressed attendees on behalf of the governor. Glenn, a member of the governor’s housing team, shared the State’s perspective on affordable housing development and efforts to increase housing production.
During his keynote, Director Auger reflected on DHLM’s first year as a City department and the work underway to advance affordable housing through City financing, development partnerships and the strategic use of City-owned land. He also emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between government, developers and financial partners to create more affordable housing opportunities for Honolulu residents.
