Access to the Kailua Beach Boat ramp has been reopened to the public

OʻAHU —The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Design and Construction (DDC) announces the reopening of the Kailua Beach Park boat ramp and parking lot following the suspension of the in-water portion of a planned geotechnical investigation.

The investigation was temporarily postponed due to anticipated high winds and a large north swell expected over the next two weeks, which would create unsafe ocean conditions for in-water work. While the exact duration of the delay is unknown, DDC estimates the suspension may continue through the end of this week or into next week, depending on weather and ocean conditions.

No additional costs are expected as a result of the postponement. In the meantime, all temporary closures at the parking area and boat ramp have been lifted, and both are now open for public use.

Once conditions improve and it is safe to resume the in-water portion of the investigation, temporary closures will again be implemented at portions of the parking area and the boat ramp to allow the contractor to complete the work. This phase of the project is expected to take approximately one week.

The geotechnical investigation, which includes both landside and in-water borings, is being conducted to support the design of a new boat ramp at Kailua Beach Park.
