HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Design and Construction will begin a project to improve the existing street lighting system at the corner of Hahani Street and Hekili Street in Kailua. Work will include installing one steel streetlight pole with a traffic signal head, as well as a luminaire on an existing wood pole. These improvements will enhance illumination at the crosswalk, increasing visibility and safety for pedestrians.
The project is expected to take one week (weather permitting), with work scheduled to begin on Monday, April 13, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). The majority of the work will take place within the sidewalk area; however, the contractor may temporarily close one lane along Hahani Street and Hekili Street adjacent to the work site to safely operate equipment and protect the crew.
During work hours, pedestrians may be directed to use alternative crosswalks or to follow detours posted by the contractor.
The project, valued at $81,400, has been awarded to Jack Endo Electric, Inc. The City will make every effort to complete this essential infrastructure upgrade as efficiently as possible with minimal disruption to the community.
