HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Design and Construction (DDC) has begun a partial second-floor interior buildout at the Wai‘anae Police Station to provide additional workspace for the Honolulu Police Department (HPD).

The project will improve approximately 2,600 square feet of interior loft space to support the Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), Criminal Investigation Division (CID), Misdemeanor Follow-Up Detail (MFUD), and Community Policing Team (CPT). Planned enhancements include four private offices, four shared office areas, an interrogation room with an observation space, and a pantry to better support daily operations.

“We’re excited and grateful that the City and County of Honolulu has begun this crucial interior buildout. The investment in these new, dedicated spaces will dramatically enhance support for our CRU, CID, MFUD, and CPT,” said Gail Beckley, Major of HPD’s District 8. “This isn’t just a physical expansion; it directly translates into the ability to conduct sensitive work more securely and efficiently, ultimately enabling us to provide more effective service to our Wai‘anae community.”

Construction began today, December 8, 2025, and will continue on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding holidays. The $1,117,000 construction contract was awarded to MJ Construction, Inc., and the $304,662 design contract to Yamasato Higa Architecture.
