
Guardrails will be replaced and/or installed in Waialua, Honolulu, Wai‘anae, and Kāne‘ohe.
HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Design and Construction (DDC) is advising the public that a guardrail installation project at various locations on O‘ahu will begin on Tuesday, January 20 2026. The project, which will take place in the areas of Waialua, Honolulu, Waiʻanae, and Kāne‘ohe, is projected to be completed by the end of March 2026. Work is expected to occur on weekdays, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., excluding holidays.
The guardrail installation project includes, but is not limited to, removal and disposal of existing vegetation and obstructions, removal of existing guardrail, installation of new metal guardrail, installation of end treatments, and installation of an impact attenuator with a concrete pad.

Travelers in the area are advised to anticipate lane closures, proceed with caution and observe all traffic control devices, posted signs, and the directions of Special Duty Officers. Please use extreme caution in these areas or use alternative routes. Drivers should anticipate delays and allow extra travel time while traveling through the work area.
The areas affected by the guardrail installation project include:
Waialua: Waialua Beach Road between Niumaloo Place and Kahaone Loop
Honolulu: Saint Louis Drive between Bertram Street and Robert Place
Waiʻanae: Lualualei Homestead Road at Māʻiliʻili Road
Kāneʻohe: Kāneʻohe Bay Drive between Aumoana Place/Laha Street and ʻĀina Moi Place/Olina Street.
