City seeks community input for overnight road work in Hale‘iwa

The community meeting will discuss proposed night work to be done on Kamehameha Highway.
Hale‘iwa – The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Design and Construction (DDC) invites the public to attend a community meeting regarding its plans to conduct overnight road work on Kamehameha Highway in Hale‘iwa as part of an ongoing improvement project currently in design that will enhance the roadway shoulders, reduce stormwater ponding, and relocate utilities.
Night work will accelerate construction and minimize traffic disruption and impacts to area businesses. At the community meeting, DDC will share information with community members about the planned work, including explaining the necessity of nighttime operations, estimated construction schedule, potential impacts, and proposed mitigation measures.
Proposed night work will include:
· Cold planing of existing pavement
· Resurfacing and roadway rehabilitation with asphalt concrete base and pavement
· Installation of pavement striping
The construction is part of the “Rehabilitation of Streets, Unit 93 – Kamehameha Highway Improvements in Hale‘iwa Project,” which is currently in design and will ultimately provide significant enhancements to the Haleʻiwa town corridor for drivers, pedestrians, and local businesses.
At the meeting, DDC will also present details of its community noise variance application, which will be submitted to the Hawaiʻi State Department of Health. Community input is sought and encouraged, and comments will be accepted.
