WAI‘ANAE    – The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Design and Construction (DDC), advises the public that bridge and box culvert work near  Pōka‘ī Bay Street in Wai‘anae will begin on May 20th, 2025, and is expected to last approximately seven months.

This project includes the demolition of existing bridge pavements at three bridges (#839, #840 and #841) to enhance the structural integrity and safety of the crossing for both motorists and pedestrians. Box culverts, spalling, and guard rails in the area will also be repaired or replaced.

Work hours will be 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). Pōka‘ī  Bay Street will be closed between Lualualei Homestead Road and Glenmonger Street, and between Ala Poko Street and Alta Street. Access for residents near the closed portions of Pōka‘ī  Bay Street will be provided via detours using Glenmonger Street, Ala Poko Street and Alta Street. For bridge no. 839, single-lane access will be available during construction. With the anticipated detours and lane closures, the public should allow extra travel time while navigating the area. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to observe all construction signs, follow the instructions of Special Duty Police Officers, and use caution in the area.

Every effort will be made to complete this essential work as quickly as possible and with as little inconvenience to the community as possible. We appreciate the public’s assistance and cooperation during this project and thank them for their patience and support while we work to improve the infrastructure in our community.
