Rent-to-Work
The Rent-to-Work Program (RTW) is funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development and provides housing subsidies for individuals or families who meet the program eligibility requirements. The program’s goal is to help families achieve housing stability by focusing on employment, job training opportunities, increased wages, and savings.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Individuals or families that are validated as meeting the HUD definition of “homelessness” (sheltered or unsheltered) or are at risk of becoming homeless, with total household income at or below 60% of the Area Median Income and are willing to work.
SERVICES PROVIDED:
-Short-term rental subsidy for 12-24 months
-Housing placement assistance
-Transition to affordable housing (if available)
-Job Placement/Job Training
-Intensive Case Management
Kumuwai Senior Housing
Kumuwai is a 30 unit building owned by the City & County of Honolulu, which includes 20 Ohana Zone funded units that are specifically targeted for elderly individuals transitioning from chronic homelessness. The facility is property managed by the nonprofit Housing Solutions, Inc., and case management for the 20 Ohana Zone units is provided by the City & County of Honolulu Department of Community Services. The permanent supportive housing at Kumuwai was specifically designed to be site based to assist elderly homeless individuals who may otherwise experience difficulty in finding a rental unit in the private market.
T.E.A.M. WorkHawaiʻi
Teach, Encourage, Advocate, Motivate. These are the core tenants of T.E.A.M WorkHawaiʻi. The T.E.A.M.’s mission is to prevent homelessness and prolonged unemployment of: the underemployed; early release detainees; individuals in clean & sober environments and treatment facilities; and low to moderate low income persons.
SERVICES PROVIDED:
-Basic interview skills
-Assistance with employment search
-Assistance acquiring monthly bus passes
-Wrap-around case management
-Dual enrollment with other WorkHawaiʻi programs for for employment and housing services
