HONOLULU —Renewing a vehicle registration just got easier for Kailua residents.
The City and County of Honolulu has opened a new DMV self-service kiosk inside Foodland at Kailua Town Center, 108 Hekili St., giving Windward Oʻahu residents another convenient option to renew and print their vehicle registrations while making a trip to the grocery store.
The new Kailua kiosk brings the total number of DMV self-service kiosks on Oʻahu to 11. The bright yellow, touch-screen terminals are located inside select Foodland and Safeway stores and allow residents to renew their registrations in minutes during regular store hours, including evenings and weekends, without making a separate trip to a satellite city hall.
“Our goal is simple: make it easier for people to do business with the City,” said Department of Customer Services Director Kim Hashiro. “Renewing your vehicle registration shouldn’t require rearranging your day. These kiosks allow residents to take care of it while they’re already out shopping, and the tremendous response shows us this is a service people value.”
Residents completed 195,630 vehicle registration renewals at DMV kiosks last year, making the kiosks the second most popular renewal option in the City and County of Honolulu, behind only in-person transactions.
In addition to the new Kailua location, DMV kiosks are available at Foodland stores in Waipiʻo Shopping Center and Lāʻie Shopping Center, and at Safeway stores in ʻEwa Beach’s Laulani Village Shopping Center, Hawaiʻi Kai Shopping Center, Kāneʻohe Bay Shopping Center, Kapolei Shopping Center, Salt Lake Shopping Center, Waimalu Plaza, Kapahulu Shopping Center, and on South Beretania Street.
A $4 remote transaction fee applies, in addition to the 2.5% fee for credit and debit card transactions. Kiosks can process registration renewals up to 10 months after the expiration date. Late registrations are subject to the standard $16 late fee, and the vehicle must have a current safety inspection. For more information, visit www.honolulu.gov/csd.
