City stresses making appointments over walking in for DMV, satellite services

Mobile device showing three-year trend, from 2022-2024, with AlohaQ appointments for CSD services

HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Customer Services reminds residents that scheduling an appointment is still the fastest way to complete transactions at driver licensing centers and satellite city halls on Oʻahu.

The reminder coincides with a 7% increase last year in the use of the AlohaQ appointment reservation system for such in-person services as renewing a Hawaiʻi driver’s license, transferring a vehicle title, or registering a moped.

Scheduling an appointment helps ensure that residents will be seen within their time constraints. On the other hand, showing up without an appointment leads to longer wait times at driver licensing centers and satellite city halls, where stand-by service is available on a limited, first-come, first-served basis to fill slots that open from cancellations and no-shows.

“Scheduling an appointment is highly encouraged as we continue to take steps to greatly improve wait times and convenience at our service locations,” said Kim Hashiro, director of the city’s Department of Customer Services, which administers DMV services across Oʻahu.

Appointments can be scheduled at alohaq.org. For more information, visit www.honolulu.gov/csd.
