CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE I

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direct supervision of the Satellite City Hall Supervisor in charge, serves as the City’s representative in the Satellite City Hall (SCH) to provide government services to the public in a pleasant, helpful and courteous manner. Performs duties that include but is not limited to processing designated motor vehicle transactions, designated driver licensing functions, loading zone permits, bus stop permits, disabled parking permits, picnic permits, operating a cash register and other office equipment, processing and distributing other City documents and permits. This position performs the routine clerical tasks initially and progressively assumes more difficult tasks as training advances. “Float” to various satellite city halls (SCH) as needed to provide staffing assistance (i.e. shortage due to sick, vacation, industrial leaves) and work various hours depending on SCH operational requirements.

 

Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school and one year of clerical experience, which shall have included some customer service or public contact experience.

Knowledge of: Office practices and procedures; filing methods and systems; grammar, spelling and word usage; methods of accounting for and banking of cash; various kinds of money acceptable in payment of accounts; office equipment such as a cash register, calculator, adding and calculating machine, typewriter, personal computer, copier.

Ability to: Deal tactfully and effectively with customers; listen to and interpret the needs of the customer and demonstrate courtesy and patience in customer relations; appraise situations, make appropriate decisions, and resolve disputes as necessary; work cooperatively with other employees, departments, agencies, and private or public organizations; understand, interpret and explain pertinent laws, ordinances, policies, procedures, rules, regulations and other operational requirements; understand, interpret and apply oral and written instructions; input and retrieve data from a computerized system; utilize a keyboard to type and input information accurately into a computer; operate office machines and equipment; handle and account for monies and other financial transactions; compare names and numbers rapidly and accurately; file materials accurately; perform arithmetic computations; as applicable, supervise, assign and review the work of others and effectively coordinate and oversee the operations of an office, facility and/or program.
