Neighborhoods & Neighborhood Boards – Neighborhoods & Neighborhood Boards to increase & assure effective citizen participation in the decisions of government shall be established in accordance with a neighborhood plan (Resolution 84-231)

V.         BOARD ACTIONS                                                                                                         7:30–8:00 P.M.

            A.         Parks and Recreation:

1)         Motion:    The KNB urges the State of Hawaii DLNR to issue licenses for kite boarders dedicating the license fees used to support State DLNR enforcement officers’ increased presence at Kailua Bay in an effort to increase safety in water sports activities at beaches.

B.         Transportation and Public Safety:

                        1)         Motion:    The KNB urges the City and County of Honolulu to reopen a Driver

                                    License office in the windward area.

                        2)         Motion:    The KNB requests that the Department of Transportation Services (DTS)

                                    establish protected left turn phases at:

                        -           Intersection of Kailua Road and Hahani Street

                        -           Intersection of Oneawa Street and Kihapai Street

                                    -           Intersection of Kuulei Road and Kainalu Drive

C.         Government and Community Services:

1)         Motion:    The KNB advises the Legislature and the Governor to apportion the budget surplus to the rainy day fund and to such other maintenance and repair requirements for schools and other needs as are currently scheduled.

D.         Planning, Zoning and the Environment Committee:

1)         Motion:    The KNB opposes the variance request at 734 Mokulua Drive to build a swimming pool within the 40 ft setback

            E.         Non-Committee Motions:

1)         Motion:   The KNB urges Governor Lingle and the State Legislature to act immediately regarding the Army’s decision to suspend Medevac flights for Hawaii and develop alternative plans for this critical function

2)         Motion:   The KNB requests that the Department of Transportation Services remove the chicane on Kihapai Street, 600-block north of Puna’a Street, Kailua

3)         Motion:    Formation of a KNB Permitted Interaction Group on Property Tax Reform to review legislation, gather information and develop recommendations
