FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 26, 2005 Release M-86 CITY BEGINS Work is scheduled to begin next week on the rehabilitation of The project, “Rehabilitation of Streets, Unit 35, Kaimuki / Waialae, ” has been budgeted for $1.9 million and is expected to take until late next summer. “This project is part of our war on potholes,” said Mayor Mufi Hannemann. “These roads need reconstruction. The temporary inconveniences caused by this project will pay off in the end with better road surfaces that aren’t nearly as prone to potholes as they are now.” The work primarily consists of reconstructing, milling and resurfacing the roads. Preliminary activities include rebuilding concrete curbs, gutters, driveway aprons, sidewalks and installation of some new drainage improvements. Additional work includes installation of permanent pavement markings, traffic loop sensors and adjusting utility covers to finish grade. Preliminary and paving work will require closing portions of Harding and 5th avenues to through traffic. Access for homeowners in the affected areas will be maintained. The closures and detours are necessary for safety and to get the work done in a timely fashion. Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes or allow extra travel time while driving through the work areas and to observe all traffic controls and posted signs.
